Types of Fires
Fires are classified by the type of fuel that is burning.
Class | Description |
---|---|
A | These fires consist of ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, fabric, plastic, and most kinds of trash. |
B | These are fires whose fuel is flammable or combustible liquid or gas such as gasoline, oil, propane, or natural gas. |
C | These are fires involving potentially energized electrical equipment, short-circuiting machinery, or overloaded electrical cables. |
D | These fires consist of combustible metals such as magnesium, potassium, titanium, and zirconium. |
K | These fires involve unsaturated cooking oils in well-insulated cooking appliances located in commercial kitchens. |
